Ingredients
For the Cake:
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
4 eggs
1 packet baking powder
240 grams butter, softened
200 grams sugar
220 grams flour
Instructions
Step 1: Preparing the Batter
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan and line it with parchment paper.
Mix the dry ingredients. In a small bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
Cream the butter and sugar. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with the sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes with an electric mixer on medium speed.
Add the eggs. Crack the eggs into the bowl, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Ensure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
Combine the mixtures. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix as this can make the cake tough.
Step 2: Baking the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake the cake. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool the cake. Once done, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 3: Preparing the Vanilla Pudding
For the vanilla pudding, you can use a store-bought mix or make your own. If making from scratch, you will typically need:
Milk
Sugar
Vanilla extract
Cornstarch
Prepare the pudding according to package instructions or your recipe. If making from scratch, generally, you would mix sugar, cornstarch, and a little milk to make a paste. Then, heat the remaining milk to a simmer, add the paste, and cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Let the pudding cool slightly before spreading it over the cooled cake.
Step 4: Assembling the Cake
Spread the vanilla pudding evenly over the top of the cooled cake.
Chill the cake. Refrigerate the cake for at least an hour before serving to allow the pudding to set.
Step 5: Serving
Slice and serve. Cut the cake into slices and serve. Optionally, garnish with chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder for an extra touch of chocolate.
Enjoy your Schokotraum Kuchen with its dreamy layer of vanilla pudding – a dessert sure to satisfy any sweet tooth!
